Columbus, GA — The Columbus State University Cougars are ushering in a new chapter of leadership, officially naming Justin Hay as the institution’s next Director of Athletics.
Hay joins CSU from Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina, where he most recently served as Deputy Athletic Director for External Relations. He will begin his tenure with the Cougars on May 19.
“All In” for Cougar Country
“I want to thank Dr. Rayfield and the search committee for their confidence in me to lead Columbus State Athletics,” said Hay. “Columbus State is a remarkable institution with a proud athletic tradition, and I’m honored to be a part of its continued growth and success. My family and I are thrilled to join the Columbus community—we’re ready to make this our home and contribute both on and off campus in meaningful ways.”
CSU President Dr. Stuart Rayfield called Hay’s hiring a bold move aimed at elevating Cougar Athletics.
“I was impressed by Justin’s work ethic, enthusiasm and track record of success at Lenoir-Rhyne, which has the reputation as a top-notch Division II athletic program,” she said. “I am excited for him to take Cougar Athletics to the next level.”

Roots in Coaching, Passion for Community
Before his success at Lenoir-Rhyne, Hay spent five years coaching baseball and serving in operations leadership at Southwest Mississippi Community College, where he dramatically expanded fundraising, modernized facilities, and strengthened community ties through initiatives like the Bear Cubs Club.
A native of Alabama, Hay is a graduate of Faulkner University and earned his master’s in sports management and event security from the University of Southern Mississippi. He and his wife, Ali, have two daughters, Caldwell and Scottie, who are excited to call Columbus their new home.
